Have you ever tried to delete something and Windows comes back and tells you that is in use by another program or person...blah blah...well for all of the times it may have happened to you, here is a way to bypass that irritation.

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.
  • Click Start > Run > type in cmd which will bring you to the command prompt
  • Close all open programs.
  • Press Control + Alt + Delete to take you to the Task Manager
  • Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe and leave Task Manager open.
  • Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI or where ever the other undeletable file is located in.
  • At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> (without the < >) is the file you wish to delete.
Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task Or
  • Press the Alt key which will highlight "File" at the top of the program and Press the down arrow key will take you to the "New Task" option and then press "Enter"
  • Then enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.
  • Close Task Manager, delete completed.
